Partnership HealthPlan Community Report 2020!

The Partnership HealthPlan of California (PHC) Community Report of 2020 featured on its cover a sidewalk chalk illustration that referenced the many chalk illustrations of support that were left from neighbor to neighbor in 2020. It was a different year for everyone, and the community report acknowledged that. PHC’s staff worked from home for most of the year, so the report featured a few staff photos (shot from a safe distance) of their staff in front of their homes. I’ve worked on this report for many years and it was a challenge and a pleasure to do something different for 2020. Click here to view a PDF of the full report.

Happy Holidays Everyone!

And boy do we need it this year. I’m so happy to send out my holiday card, with a poem I wrote in late April 2020 (planning ahead). At the time I wrote it, I thought, will it actually be relevant during the holidays (so far ahead?) Unfortunately it was. Next year will be different. Remember how everyone joked about how “2020” would be “20/20 clear vision” and all your “2020 vision goals will come true?” Well, let’s hope 2021 is “Lucky 21,” and (low bar) it will be better than 2020.

My Favorite PHC Annual Report

So there’s this expression, “the cobbler’s kids have no shoes,” which is also a handy way of explaining why I have no time to update this blog or website. And why I neglected to share (until now) my favorite Partnership HealthPlan of California annual report, which was the 2016-2017 report, which featured their four regions, (Northeast, Northwest, Southeast, Southwest). Patty Hayes of PHC and I worked on this and it is a beauty. Check out a PDF of the full report here.

PHC Anniversary timeline!

As part of Partnership HealthPlan of California’s 25th Anniversary, I helped them create a timeline mural for their lobby in Fairfield, California. The mural is eight and a half feet wide by six and a half feet tall, so it is large and prominent in the entryway of their main building. The design challenge was finding photos that represented PHC’s service area but would also have space to cleanly display all of their accomplishments. I’ve heard stories of how employees are proud to pass this mural every day on their way to work and I’m happy to be a part of that. Here’s a PDF of the completed mural if you’d like to read all of the milestones clearly.

PHC Community Report

Recently I designed Partnership HealthPlan of California's annual report, which they renamed this year as their "Community Report”. This is line with their continuing focus on the 14 Northern California counties they serve and the diverse communities within them. A mix of heart-warming success stories and useful statistics, the 24-page report has been a big yearly project for me for the past five years. Click here to see a full PDF.

CBHDA Behavioral Health Conference!

In December I once again sponsored and helped create all of the materials for CBHDA's annual Behavioral Health Policy Forum. This year the conference took place at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco. I designed name tags, signage, the program and promotional items. I also presented a seminar called, "Consumer Engagement Through Good Design," where I went over the basics of branding and some simple design principles. I ended the presentation by redesigning a flyer live on stage... a flyer that I pulled off the internet from one of the participant organizations... so the creator of the original (pretty bad) flyer could have been in the audience! (gulp) The forum was a tremendous success and I am proud to have been a sponsor.

The program was produced in three versions with three different cover photos and also used as signage at the venue.
