728x90 online ad for State Compensation Insurance Fund embracing their stodgy reputation
Many styles of writing
I started writing at age 16 as a regular contributor to The Fresno Bee, and as a staff reporter for The Twin City Times, where I had my own column, "Community Spotlight." I wrote for The Fresno Bee all through college, graduating with a degree in journalism and public relations. Throughout my career in public relations I have had opportunities to write punchy online advertising copy, eyeball-grabbing billboard copy, funny radio and TV scripts, as well as more traditional journalistic articles.
Online
For over seven years I wrote the online advertising copy for the "Buy California Bonds" campaign, helping raise billions of dollars for the state of California. I also wrote the print copy for ads that appeared in the Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle and The New York Times.
For the State Compensation Insurance Fund, also known as "State Fund," I wrote online ads that poked fun of State Fund's stodgy reputation as a large insurance behemoth, turning that negative perception into a strength. The ads also addressed a recent reorganization, with layoffs, and corresponding fears about State Fund's stability.
I was also part of the team that wrote all of the online content for the Energy Upgrade California website, often translating technical concepts into consumer-friendly articles.
And for several years I wrote (and edited and designed) an emailed newsletter for the American Chemistry Council's "Plastics Make it Possible" campaign.
For The California Wellness Foundation I wrote many print ads appearing in The San Francisco Chronicle, Sacramento Bee, and Los Angeles Times.
And CalPERS, the pension system for California public employees, asked me to help them write every edition of their “OnHealth” newsletter, that was mailed to every CalPERS member.
Radio
I have written and produced over 150 radio spots. Please click here to listen to a few.
TV & Video
I have written many 30-second TV spots and online videos, often taking complicated technological or science-related concepts and breaking them down into consumer-friendly scripts.
During the recent economic downturn, California encouraged out-of-state investors to buy California bonds, as most investors turned toward lower-risk investments.
